And what\u2019s the best way to learn them?<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you all of this in this blog post!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-learning-chords-for-beginners\"><strong>Learning chords for beginners<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this blog, we look at the topic of <strong>learning chords<\/strong> for beginners. Here you\u2019ll get answers to the most important questions you have as a piano beginner, namely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are chords?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why should I <em>learn chords<\/em>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How is a <a href=\"https:\/\/zapiano.com\/en\/what-is-a-chord\/\">chord<\/a> built on the keyboard?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-learning-chords-and-the-big-goals\"><strong>Learning chords and the big goals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you start learning the piano, I\u2019d like to give you a tip: set the big goals aside for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, we all love to be inspired by artists and composers. And that\u2019s a good thing. But don\u2019t expect yourself to be able to play pieces like Yiruma\u2019s \u201cRiver Flows in You\u201d right at the beginning. Always remember: these artists also had to learn to play the piano first and take lessons. Don\u2019t set your goals too high too quickly, or frustration will soon set in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-learning-chords-is-a-process\"><strong>Learning chords is a process<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Learning chords<\/strong> and learning to play the piano is a process. And it\u2019s definitely worth taking your time with it. According to our <a href=\"https:\/\/zapiano.com\/en\/the-zapiano-method\/\">Zapiano<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Method<\/a>, we divide music into three areas: harmony, melody and rhythm. Then we look at each area on its own first. To start with, we limit ourselves to C major. In the Piano Starter 1 course, we take a very close look at this key. A C major chord, for example, consists of the notes C, E and G. If you have a piece in C major, every note of the C major scale is part of the piece. On sheet music, you can recognize C major by the fact that it has no key signature. You can also see this in the image above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suppose we don\u2019t have sheet music but a chord progression: then the first chord of the progression usually corresponds to the key of the piece. With a chord progression of C, F, Am and G, the key would therefore be C major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-should-i-learn-chords\"><strong>Why should I learn chords?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When <strong>learning chords<\/strong>, the first important thing is that you know the notes on the piano keyboard. You really should know them by heart. Only then can you play the <a href=\"https:\/\/zapiano.com\/en\/intervals\/\">intervals<\/a> between them with confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This knowledge forms the foundation for everything else you\u2019ll learn on the piano. It\u2019s so immensely important because it keeps your brain from being constantly busy with micro-processes while you play. If you constantly have to think about where the \u201cF,\u201d for example, is on the piano keys while you\u2019re playing, you\u2019ll stumble and won\u2019t be able to play fluently. That\u2019s why this information simply has to stick. And don\u2019t make the mistake of putting stickers on the keys. That can also get in the way of fluent playing. Just invest a few minutes and really learn the notes by heart. There are six important chords:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>C major (C)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>D minor (Dm)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>E minor (Em)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>F major (F)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>G major (G)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A minor (Am)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building these chords is super easy: start on a note of the C major scale and add every other note of the scale on top \u2013 the third and the fifth. This gives you C\u2013E\u2013G, D\u2013F\u2013A, E\u2013G\u2013B, F\u2013A\u2013C, G\u2013B\u2013D and A\u2013C\u2013E.
